Finding your Spiritual Path

A spiritual path is in every one of us.  It is not the same for every person but it is your true identity. With guidance you can find the path that you deserve.

To follow ones true spiritual path is to work with and recognize three fundamental dynamics, discernment, compassion and harmony. What I am aim to do in this article is to see how I can help you work towards your spiritual path.

Many years ago a friend of mine Kevin Wade, once told me that I would never be able to understand my life’s journey by looking at where I was heading. He told me my spiritual path could only be followed by accepting where I had been, by holding on to all that has happened to me, by understanding all that I have learned, all that I had suffered, and all that I hope for. Only by doing this would I be able to move forward on my spiritual path leading me towards reaching my goals of wisdom and peace.

When I think back, I only understood some of what he was telling me. However, in my heart I knew he was right. It is only now; a few years on, I truly understand his advice. The path I have walked has not always been an easy one, nor was I open to the teachings or the gift that had been offered to me. However, I now know that his words have stayed with me and shaped me into who I am today and is leading me towards who I am and my spiritual path.

I now also understand that these three dynamics may be common, and my hope is that by sharing then with you may encourage and perhaps offer some guidance. I also learned that each of the three elements leads quite naturally to the next. By understanding this process will allow you to follow a spiritual path that is appropriate to where and who you are.

Let me explain the three elements: Discernment, Compassion and Harmony.

Discernment.

What do you see when you look at the world. Your primary task here is to see clearly, what it is in the world around you. Only when you see clearly can you live well, grow and teach others.

Discernment means the process of perceiving and understanding the reality of life. This task involves an ongoing search to see what is happening around you, to be aware of patterns, to discover connections and to undercover meaning without discernment, you are merely looking and worse you are imposing your own ideas and views on what is before you. If you want to grow, you need to look beyond that blindness to see what is actually happening.

When discernment becomes a regular part of your life, your focus becomes an ingrained way of being, it will lead to new ways of perceiving reality or more correctly, it leads to new realities. As Buddha once said, “Right focus brings about reality”. The perception of that new reality inevitably leads to a new understanding of others and the way you interact with them. This understanding is based on compassion, the second dynamic of your on going spiritual path leading you to your spiritual awakening.

Compassion: Why and how do you care?

Compassion is a sense of shared suffering and this combined with the desire to alleviate or reduce the suffering of others. Compassion involves action, it does not and cannot exit in a vacuum, however, it is expressed when you give aid and comfort to others. Having compassion will free you from limitations and helps you move towards a spiritual awakening and a new kind of freedom.

Albert Einstein wrote about his feelings and thoughts saying they were separate from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and affection for a few people nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature’s beauty.

Harmony: Living in peace with wisdom.

To see clearly and to love completely is to move towards a state or condition of harmony, which is the vision of a universe and all that is in it, allowing you to move towards your spiritual path and spiritual awakening.

Harmony is not an idea or a concept nor is it static. Harmony is a graceful and gracious dynamic that is based on the spiritual stance that you can choose to adopt when dealing with the world you live in. Harmony is the consequence of choice that allows you to grow towards your own spiritual path and spiritual awakening. A spiritual writer once said, “Choosing forgiveness, compassion and harmony attracts futures that reflect such qualities.

When you choose forgiveness, compassion and harmony, you are truly living your spiritual path. Your world should be perceived as a place that is grounded and nourished by love, rather than by negativity and hate. As a person, you need to be seen as a vessel of love, with the potential to become all that you can be, rather than a rival competitor or even a person with enemies. The environment should become the focus of your respect rather than an asset for your own greed. In short, a world with harmony is a better place for all considered.
