The true essence of who you are, and your individuality, remains untouched and unchanged. Viewed in this light, death is not a loss of everything eternal. It is just another step on your journey through infinity.
So how do spiritualists know this is what happens I hear you say? Through mediumship, a medium brings messages from spirit friends and loved ones. A true medium can positively identify a persons name, give a description or give an event. After this, there is no doubt that the personality survives death and is ready to communicate.
Spiritual philosophy considers death to be the doorway to an expanded outlook and a larger awareness of life. In this sense, death is a necessary step in your continuing growth and development. It is a release from the confinement of the body and the limits of your finite mind. Of course, even with this understanding death does not diminish the fact that it is a huge transition, and even the most enlightened spiritual person goes through stages of grief, anger, sadness, loss and acceptance.
Within spiritualism, you learn we are all one. However, this understanding also means that you are connected to others, whether you are the one dying or not. You will still have feelings of loss, regret and remorse for all the things you have done or not done. Just like a marriage, a new baby, new job or new house death is a major life change even if you firmly believe that you continue to exist and expand your awareness in the afterlife or not.
After death, your soul achieves the freedom of conscious control and spiritual travel. If you do not accept death or resist the process of drying, you introduce conflict between the life you had and the afterlife. This is why it is important to take care of any unfinished business as you near death, so that you can let go of life completely.
In Brahmanical Hinduism, there is a stage of life called the forest dweller. This is the stage that a person who has brought up and has now finished raising a family is supposed to let go of pleasures and attachments to life, allowing them to prepare for death. However, in the west the goal is to keep spending money and maximize enjoyment up the end of life. This makes it difficult for many to make a graceful transition into the afterlife. Intense attachment to the material world makes it difficult to accomplish spiritual travel during life and death. |
